Stone cleaning questions
Will cleaning damage my sandstone?
Not if it is done properly. Sandstone should never be blasted or treated with harsh acid. We test a patch first and use low-pressure, steam or poultice methods depending on the stone and the dirt.
How much does stone cleaning cost?
It depends on the size of the elevation, how heavy the soiling is, the method needed and the access. Scaffolding is usually the biggest single cost, so we show it as a separate line. The survey and the test patch are free.
Can you clean just the front of a tenement?
Yes. We can quote for a single elevation or a whole building, and for one owner or the full stair.
Should I clean the stone before repointing?
Usually yes. Cleaning first shows the true condition of the joints and stone, and the new pointing then matches a clean wall rather than a dirty one.
Do you clean patios, driveways or indoor stone floors?
No. We clean and repair the stonework of buildings and boundary walls. For paving and floors you will want a specialist floor cleaner.
