What we fix
The stone repairs we do most
Sandstone is soft and it weathers. Most repairs are smaller than owners fear once someone has actually looked at them.

Crumbling and eroded sandstone
Faces flaking off, sills and string courses worn back. Repaired with matching mortar or cut back and indented with new stone.
Stone replacement to match
Where a stone is too far gone, we cut it out and let in new sandstone, matched in colour and bed, so it weathers with the wall.
Lintels, sills and copes fixed
Cracked or dropped lintels over doors and windows, and sills that let water in. Repaired or replaced, with the cause sorted.
Copes, skews and loose stones
The stones on top of walls, gables and chimneys that work loose. A free check now is cheaper than a stone coming down.
Cracks and movement
We tell you whether a crack is old and stable or something that needs an engineer, and we stitch and repair the ones that are ours to fix.
Home Report stonework sorted
Buying or selling and the report mentions stonework? We give you a straight answer and a price for what actually needs doing.

Questions people ask us
Stone repair questions
My sandstone is crumbling. Can it be repaired or does it need replacing?
Usually it can be repaired. Light weathering is cleaned back and consolidated, deeper loss is built up with a matching repair mortar, and only stone that has lost its face or is structurally gone gets cut out and replaced. The survey tells you which, stone by stone.
How much does stone repair cost?
It depends on how many stones, how deep the damage is, whether any need replacing, and the access. Scaffolding is often the biggest cost, so we show it as a separate line. The survey and written quote are free, and we will tell you if something can wait.
Is a cracked lintel dangerous?
Sometimes. A hairline crack in an old lintel that has not moved is often stable. A crack with a step in it, or a lintel that has dropped, needs looking at quickly. Send us a photo or book a survey and we will tell you straight.
Do you do work flagged in a Home Report?
Yes. Surveyors often note stonework as a category 2 or 3 item. We look at what they flagged, tell you what it really needs, and give you a written quote you can use in the sale or purchase.
Do you work on tenements and listed buildings?
Yes. We repair single stones and whole elevations, and can quote for one owner or the full stair. On listed buildings we use matching stone and lime mortar, and we can advise on what needs consent.
